Flicker #28
Thanks for coming out to our
rare Sunday night show. I'm pretty excited about a couple of things in tonight's
program. One is that the recent super 8 revival here continues after a little
bit of a slump last year. Tonight five of our films are super 8 prints.
Keep the s8 rolling.
I'm also pretty excited about the number of women screening tonight--four
of the filmmakers are women. While we've still got a ways to go to get out
of this boy-dominated rock/film scene, it's definitely a good sign.
And, of course, I'm excited to parade my latest low-tech concoction before
you. I really do appreciate the fact that you come out every two months
to see what we locals have been up to lately and to encourage us to do more.
So, thanks. Good viewing,
Flicker film grants
Congrats to Mike Connor and Deena DeNaro for garnering the grants big and small at the last show. Mike is rumored to be putting the cash in a slush fund to get a print made of his film. Deena promises to show us the results of her s8 grant soon. Who will the lucky winners be tonight? I can hardly stand the suspense.
If you'd like to be considered
for either the $100 grant or the super 8 film & processing grant at an upcoming
fest, email your (formal or not-so-formal proposal) to me at roger.beebe@duke.edu
or mail it to:

Flicker Listservs
For those who are new to Flicker or who have somehow managed not to hear
my frequent reminders, notices, pleas, etc., we have two listservs to serve
you. One is a simple low-traffic (spam-free) list that announces the dates
of upcoming shows and deadlines for submissions. The other is a "filmmakers'
resource"--posts there include festival announcements, local film-related
jobs, occasional tech tips, and other things of interest to local filmmakers.
If you're interested in being added to either list, you can sign up at the
merch window. I believe that's what they call the soft sell...
