      Flicker #27

Welcome to another evening of celluloid-originated amusements. As most of you already know, in early November I spent 10 days on the road sharing the Flicker gospel with curious onlookers around the Southeast. From Athens to Wilmington (alphabetically) and from Asheville to Savannah (geographically, North to South), the natives came out & got a helping of our local fare. Some of those natives had films of their own, a handful of which we're seeing tonight. Some of those filmmakers are even making the trek to the Cradle to introduce the films to you--you might consider clapping extra-loud to give 'em a little something to keep 'em warm on the long drive home. While I'm excited about the whole show, I'm especially excited to have finally made contact with the parallel universe Flicker in Athens, GA which inspired Norwood to start this thing up so many moons ago. They've recently revived the "Flicker Film Society" there to make it better'n ever with a show of filmic oddities every Monday night. We're going to be screening a film by each of the honchos down there (founder, Angie Grass & sidekick, Chris Jolly) as part of tonight's show. They've promised to try to make the 5 hour trip up here the next time our show isn't on a Monday night. (It's the first time I think I've had conflicting counter-programming with a show in another state.)
Anyway, all this emphasis on the goodies gathered on the Flicker tour shouldn't obscure the fact that we've got plenty of stuff from locals tonight too (including two newcomers to the area & the long-awaited Flicker premiere of Mike Connor's "Secondhand").
Enjoy, (then go home and make something while you're still full of ideas & excitement)
      Roger

      Flicker film grants

Congrats to Brett Ingram for walking away with a pocketful of cash ($100) at the last show. I've now seen Brett's film "The Garden Parasol 10 times & I'm not bored with it yet. Tonight we'll hit the $2000 mark when we give away yet another $100 grant.
Congrats also to the Freewater kids (Kitchel, Epss, et al.) who nabbed our third super 8 film grant (a free roll & processing). Another lucky pair of filmmakers will be welcomed into the circle of Flicker grant laureates tonight. Could it be you? It could if you send a (formal or informal) proposal to:
