Flicker #26
Wow. I can't believe it's already time to do another show. It seems like
only ten days since the last one. (Actually, that's probably because it's
11 days since our Greatest Hits show at the Center for Documentary Studies
in Durham.) And with the planning of the highly anticipated (by me, at least)
upcoming Flicker Southeasst tour, I feel like I've been living, eating,
and breathing Flicker.
And speaking of the tour, it's been amazing to me to talk to people around
the Southeast who are really excited about hosting a Flicker show. Most
of them are especially excited because in their towns they don't have anything
like Flicker. Yet another reason to appreciate what we have here. It's been
great, also to be setting up essentially 3 greatest hits programs in the
span of a couple of months (with the Best of Flicker, vol. 2 tape, the show
at CDS, and the touring show). While it's been a little tough to find enough
time to do all this stuff, it's given me a chance to look back at Flickers
past and see all the swell stuff that we've screened over the years here.
Even with the 25 or so films that I used in those 3 shows, there are still
plenty more that I'd love to see again if I could get my hands on a copy.
(Remember Reade Whinnem's home-processed "Doppelganger"? Or "Camera X" by
Alan Colombo? Or Matt Andronicas "x3"?) As Norwood is fond of saying excitedly/wistfully,
"So many things..."
But instead of looking back, I'm now looking forward to tonight's program.
Hopefully we'll see another couple of films that I can reminisce about in
the program guide for Flicker #46.
Good viewing,

Congrats to Will Skolochenko and Josh Hostetler for taking home $100 and
a roll of super 8 and processing respectively. (I can't believe it took
us so long to induct Will into the circle of Flicker laureates.) If you'd
like a shot at these great prizes at an upcoming Flicker, send a proposal
